Japan is stepping up preparations for the International Horticultural Expo 2027, set to take place in Yokohama, Kanagawa Prefecture. The event, known as Green Expo 2027, aims to celebrate the harmony between people, nature, and technology while promoting sustainability and decarbonization.
The organizing committee and the national government are pushing forward with plans to transform the former US Navy Kamiseya Communication Facility into a massive garden featuring about 10 million flowers and trees. The site will showcase both Japan’s horticultural heritage and cutting-edge environmental innovations.
The Japan Association for the International Horticultural Expo 2027, Yokohama, along with local authorities and partner organizations, has also intensified its nationwide outreach campaign to raise awareness and excitement about the upcoming event.
Running from March 19 to September 26, 2027, the Expo will be held under the theme “Scenery of the Future for Happiness.”
Green Expo 2027 will be Japan’s fourth international horticultural exposition and the first A1-certified event in 37 years, following the International Garden and Greenery Exposition held in Osaka in 1990. Smaller-scale horticultural events were later held on Awaji Island in 2000 and in Hamamatsu, Shizuoka Prefecture, in 2004.
