Supreme Court dismisses Cassandra Ong’s petition questioning investigations by the House of Representatives and the Senate
The Supreme Court has dismissed the petition filed by Cassandra Li Ong against the committees of the Senate and the House of Representatives conducting investigations into alleged anomalies involving Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (POGOs).
In a decision signed by Associate Justice Jhosep Lopez, the Court recognized the authority of Congress to conduct hearings in aid of legislation.
Ong was among those linked to the Lucky South 99 compound in Porac, Pampanga, which was raided by authorities due to its illegal operations.
In her petition, Ong claimed that Congress violated her right to privacy and her right against self-incrimination.
She also accused the House QuadComm of abusing its power and exceeding its jurisdiction by allegedly forcing her to disclose information during the investigation.
